I am getting my iPad tonight. So far my first downloads will be:
I want to keep this as purely an academic tool so as not to be distracted by games and what not. I am sure more apps will come as I research them and I will let you guys know how well it integrates into my class work.
I am pretty excited though, the visible body app should really help me nail down these cranial nerve pathways.
A neural circuit for alternating rhythmic activity, what would be engaged in the spinal control of walking for example. Or as I like to call it, a total mind fuck.
Last minute studying for my neuro test today.

Hand Drawn Medical Tutorials
This is the source of the spinal tracts video I posted the other night. This is perhaps my greatest discovery this week. I am totally nerding out about this.

Enjoy!
I am studying the sensory and motor tracts in the spinal cord tonight. This is the first in a series of videos outlining the spinal pathways. Enjoy.
A young teenager who suffered a stroke at 18 now has Broca’s aphasia. Though she knows exactly what she wants to say, she often has a hard time forming the sentences to communicate. Broca’s area is found in the lower portion of the frontal lobe on the dominant side of the brain. For 90% of right-handed individuals, Broca’s area is in the left cerebral hemisphere.
This is actually a mild case, but illustrates the extreme complexity of the brain. For those interested there is a book by neurologist Oliver Sacks called The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat. It is full of case studies showcasing rare anomalies in brain physiology, such as that above. I became incredibly sad watching this video; we are all so very lucky to be fully functioning individuals. How often do you take things like speech and reading for granted?
I have been feeling very antisocial today. Luckily I have enough excuses to shut myself up in my house tonight. I am currently keeping company with my neuro text book and Ludwig van Beethoven (I call him Lude for short, we are cool like that). I also have a date with Dr. Frank Netter (if you don’t know who that is, you should google him) later tonight, so that I can review some anatomy before teaching at 8 am. I hope people are jealous about how awesome my life is.
